Mandara Rosen Yala, Kataragama

Our recent stay at Mandara Rosen Yala was a genuinely pleasant experience. The hotel's commitment to cleanliness was evident, and the staff were consistently helpful, making our visit thoroughly enjoyable. Breakfast each morning provided a good start to the day, while the dinner buffet was particularly impressive, offering a fabulous spread that was a highlight of our evenings. The hotel's serene atmosphere allowed us to relax and recharge, which was much appreciated after exploring the local area. We felt welcomed and valued as guests throughout our stay, thanks to the attentive service. If our travels bring us back to Kataragama, Mandara Rosen Yala will certainly be our hotel of choice once more. It's an establishment that promises comfort and excellent dining experiences.

The rooms were clean. But not happy with the food. They had set menus. Dinner buffet had no selection. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The towels look warm out and discolored red. we go there every year when we visit Kataragama Devala. So the place is very familiar

The hotel needs upgrading in terms of service. Restaurant was very poorly managed when it comes to service. Guess short of staff. Nishantha who is the F&B manager should manage the services well. Tabels were not ready, tea cups not available, have to ask for every service including napkins. Rooms need better upgrading. Tolielt, towls and pillow cases look very old. This is not a standard Mandara Rosen should be. We have used this as a frequent Hotel but experience was very poor and was sad to see the lower standards. Please invest more staff. Thank you

Stayed here with my daughter for 2 nights while visiting Yala Park and attending the incredible Kataragama Esala Festival. Room was huge with a verandah looking out on the garden which was a playground for monkeys...very entertaining. AC worked well, water was always hot. Tea and coffee in room. We ate 5 meals there and everything was tasty . Stuck with western food due to tummy issues, but the buffet did look appealing. Maybe next time. It is a short Tuk Tuk ride into town if you do not have a driver. No complaints.

The initial charm of Mandara Rosen quickly faded. While the grand architecture and spacious rooms offered promise, a closer look revealed significant issues. The rooms themselves were furnished with dated, stained furniture and an unpleasant odor lingered throughout all three rooms our group occupied. Disappointing for the price point. The food situation was a complete disaster. First day, we were served a bland vegetarian spread of multiple root vegetables - tempered beetroot with greens, tempered radishes, tempered potatoes, and an overcooked gourd curry with dhal curry. Who wants multiple root vegetables dishes for one meal? Our order was even messed up, with chicken served instead of fish. The buffet dinner wasn't much better, offering a variety of tasteless dishes. The coffee situation was the worst. A near-empty pot sat out, and upon requesting a refill, the server grudgingly brought back a pot that was clearly just watered-down leftover coffee. The entire restaurant staff seemed unfriendly and unhelpful, with no greetings or smiles. Next day, breakfast offered more options, but most things were still flavorless. For the price we paid, this stay was a huge letdown. This appears to be a management issue, and it's a shame to see such a beautiful place go downhill. I would not recommend the Mandara Rosen and won't be returning.

Always been my Favourite Hotel in Kataragama because of the Service, Location and the Amenities.We were there for 2 Days from 11 March and this time the service was even a lot better as they had mouth watering Buffets catering to all kinds of Cuisines for Dinner and Breafast.The new Executive Cheff has done wonders with the Food and the Menus. Would like to congratulate and thank him for the great Culinary Experience. From there we went to their Beautiful Mirissa Resort, but the food was by far the Best at Mandara Rosen Kataragama which I have already informed to the Group General Manager. Would highly recommend this Hotel to any Locals or Tourists. Hopefully we will be there again at the same time next year.

This is a good value hotel perfect for a night to rest between travels or as a base to explore Yala National Park. It has a huge restaurant with an à la carte menu and buffet options. The pool was a popular place to hang out. The room was very spacious with air con and our own facilities. We left early in the morning at 2 AM - and the staff was very accommodating and helpful.

Worst service in Sri Lanka !! Restaurant was fine but on leaving …… no helpful staff. The room smelt musty and there was ingress of rain during a storm. My husband had to carry three suitcases down two flights of stairs, across a bridge, more steps. I gave HIM the tip for baggage - joking aside, it was dangerous. I went to sign out at Reception “Not here.” “Over there at the kiosk” A member of staff (young boy) stood at the kiosk made no attempt to move so I sat down in the Reception chairs. EVENTUALLY approached the kiosk again to say when they were ready I was ready to leave. At this time around five staff were standing around enjoying my delay. Husband was struggling to get the suitcases in the car. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. They have A LOT of Coach parties and presumably press them for good reviews. I cannot imagine otherwise how they are so well thought of. If you like Coach parties and rudeness stay here.

Despite the grandiose lobby and restaurant (where funerary music played most of the time) the room was disappointing. There was a dead bug under the bed and the bed was very creaky which woke us both up whenever one of us moved. The fridge was too loud and the shower was weak. Both bedside lights were controlled from one side of the bed only - rendering one of the lights completely pointless. Blackout curtains were on one side of the room but two windows on the other side couldn't be covered meaning light flooded in all night from the rest of the hotel. We found the bar to be closed when it was supposed to be open and sections of steps on the bar level were unlit at night. The coffee shop seemed to be permanently closed. The food in the restaurant was good though and the staff were generally okay but room service was far too slow. Variable Wi-fi only.
